Tropical Paradise in NY Palm Trees,

Blue Heron Cottage. Palm trees on the beach. @ bottles of wine and Cheese and Crackers our compliments.
The Blue Heron cottage offers the best of both worlds. The front of the cottage sits on a sandy beach with Lake Ontario rolling in the waves. The sunsets on the beach are spectacular. There you can spot one of the many Bald Eagles fishing in the lake. Or maybe you want to watch the sailboat races right out front on the lake. Plenty of body surfing and swimming. The back of this wonderful cottage sits on Sodus Bay. The water is calm and great for swimming and fishing, water skiing and all kinds of water sports. All our cottages are accessible by boat only and we take you and your things in and back out when you leave on a 24' pontoon boat. Once there you have a 14' motor boat to get around on. All the
restaurants have docks. So you can shop and eat without ever getting back into your car. It's a BLAST! You will love it here!

This cottage has a 30' dock and comes with a 14ft aluminum boat with 4 stroke 10 hp outboard motor. (gas will be$15.00 for the week unlimited refills) The beds are made with sheets only, you bring pillows, towels and blankets as of Covid-19 new rules. There is endless toilet paper, 2 rolls of paper towels and much more. The kitchen has it all. fully equipped with the latest cooking utensils. There is a Bunn coffee maker for large pots and a K-cup coffee maker for a cup on the run. Washer and dryer is included
This is simply the best rental location on Sodus Bay.

This charming vacation retreat is located within minutes of eight waterfront restaurants and several marinas. It is also near historic Sodus Point, which features a sandy beach on Lake Ontario, two light houses, and maritime museum.

This cottage includes a master bedroom with Queen-size bed, second bedroom with full-size bed, third bedroom with two sets of twin bunkbeds. SEE ALL FOUR OF OUR COTTAGES:

"A hidden gem in a serene location."
I highly recommend Sodus Bay to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway. Scott and Martha were very hospitable and welcomed us as the first guests of the 2018 season. We highly anticipate to revisit in the upcoming future.

Excellent retreat!
Never stayed in a cottage where a bay is in back yard and lake in the front! This was the perfect get away with no crowds; just peace and tranquility. Scott and Martha were very attentive and helpful. Looking forward to another stay!

4th of July Weekend on the bay/lake
We loved our stay in the Blue Heron cottage on the weekend of the 4th. The owners were very kind/accommodating. We didn’t see a hot tub or washer and dryer on the property as listed but we never ended up needing either so we didn’t follow up with the owners about it. The location is stunning and the house was clean.

Fun get a way
We had a fun time. Lake Ontario out one door, Sodus Bay out the other. Because of COVID you'll need things like plates/utensils/cups/mugs. Beach is rocky, adults needed water shoes, kids didn't care.

Awesome vacation
I just ended my weeks stay at this cottage today, and couldn't wait to write a positive review of this paradise in upstate New York. From the second we arrived we knew it was going to be a great week. Scott's son was waiting at the marina and helped us load all of our stuff on the boat, then took us to the cottage where he helped us unload. When we got inside we saw the gifts of wine and delicious cheese ( so good we had to stop at the shop and get more on our way out of town). Sitting on the beach with a margarita was so relaxing, and bonfires at night with the sound of waves crashing on the beach made us feel like we were at the ocean. We had three dogs with us who may have enjoyed the stay even more than us. Scott was extremly helpful with any needs, and even noticed a guest of ours smoking a cigar and went and brought him a few more to enjoy ( which were amazing Scott). All together this was a perfect week, and we are already looking at one of Scott's bigger cottages for next summer so more of our friends can enjoy it with us. We had the time of our lives, and Scott and his familys hospitality are a big reason why. Thanks again. Charlie

Weekend at Blue Heron
My college friends and I do an annual summer trip to catch up and get some time together, and this year we stayed at Martha and Scott's Blue Heron Cottage on Lake Ontario near Sodus Point. The location was beautiful, with water views and access, a balcony and a porch on both the front and back of the house. There wasn't a set check-in time, and our three groups all arrived at separate times with Martha being extremely accommodating and friendly in picking up and dropping off all of us. The directions that we received prior to getting to the pick up and parking location were also very helpful and easy to follow. The cottage itself was perfect for what we were looking for: a space with three bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and outdoor space where we could all hang out, and still have private spaces. Martha was also great for the entire duration of our stay! She was very communicative, and assisted us when our motorboat stopped working, going so far as to lend us her own for our long weekend! We can't say enough good things about Martha. There were a few things that were not included in the listing that we discovered upon arriving: No plates, bowls, cups, or cutlery in the kitchen, though plenty of cooking vessels. The stove and coffee pot were both non-working, though the Keurig worked just great when we purchased K-Cups. The beach out back is mostly rocks, so bring water shoes for easier walking. Be sure to bring extra trash bags and paper towels. The outdoor grill worked great, and the house came with a huge supply of filtered water jugs (though there's nothing wrong with the lake water, it does have that sulphur-y smell, and the water pressure is low). Two kayaks and a canoe, two fire pits, and a back patio were enjoyed greatly by us, as well as the ease of access to the mainland and the dockside restaurants and bars that we could pull up to right on the motorboat that was provided. Thank you again Martha, and the Blue Heron, for making our weekend so enjoyable!

Liked: Cleanliness, listing accuracy
The nicest people ever, not the greatest rental, but really.
First of all, the owners, Scott and Marti are so nice. It’s hard to write a negative review, but I do want to make sure a few things don’t go unwritten, in case it helps someone make an educated decision when they book. First thing, this house can ONLY be reached by boat or pontoon. There is NO WAY to drive to it and it didn’t say that in the description. A party of eight can’t ride the boat together so you have to wait for them to drive you on their personal pontoon, which they are happy to do but you can’t all ride together so it takes about 60 full minutes for an entire group to get to the house or back to their cars. Also, there is no air conditioner, and it’s HOT up stairs. So hot we took our kids back downstairs and they slept on the floor. If you open the windows to get air literally thousands of mosquitos flood inside. Seriously, thousands. Also, it says washer and dryer but it was nowhere to be seen. Neither is the hammock. We asked several times for promised life jackets to Utilize the canoe, but they never came. The house is functional, but very run down. No blinds or curtains to block sun or the extreme heat. The floors are peeling and the towel racks are falling out of the wall. 1/2 of the provided fans simply don’t work. We didn’t get wine or cheese like the other reviewers have talked about but I don’t care about that. I don’t think it’s a safe place for elderly (my poor hot daddy) or small kids. Such nice people! Wouldn’t rent again. Definitely not worth as much as we paid. Again, the sweetest couple but not a place for a family to vacation.

Beautiful setting
What a gem crescent beach is! We stayed at the property with 7 people, me, my wife, our 4 children (ages 12, 10, 6 and 3), and my mom. The beach and bay are beautiful and the property is as described, with access to both out of your front door and back door. Its a bit rustic, but we expected that based on prior descriptions from other renters. The cottage needs a little work and updates, but again, we felt like everything was what we expected, and loved the one in a million location. We rented a bigger boat from Fowler’s to do tubing and fun in the bay, and I highly recommend doing that! Our kids had a blast. We made incredible memories, and Martha and Scott were generous, kind and caring owners- and were amazing hosts all weekend.

Loved it
Perfect location. Loved having access to a boat. Martha even let us have the pontoon boat one day since we were celebrating an anniversary - which an incredibly generous gesture. We were greeted with wine and cheese and our entire trip was remarkable. Martha was an amazingly friendly and generous host.

Lovely spot, Sodus Bay on one side, Lake Ontario on the other
My grown son, 8-year-old grandson and I greatly enjoyed our two nights at this amazing dog-friendly cottage with Sodus Bay in front and Lake Ontario in back. It can only be reached by boat. The cottage was clean and well-equipped but be warned there is no WiFi. The VRBO listing needs an update though. We brought our towels, pillows and blankets, as advised due to Covid, only to discover we didn't need to. There was no hammock. Also there were no kayaks or canoe even though they were mentioned in the listing. We had use of a motorboat which was great fun. You can fish off the dock. The swimming is great and the beach extends for some distance for walking. (Beach shoes are advised due to the rocky beach.) And July 4th weekend was great fun, fireworks on all sides for two hours both Saturday and Sunday. I'd definitely go there again.

Beautiful!
Great spot! So quiet and relaxing. Perfect place for kids and dogs as you can walk right out the door and sit on the beach as kids play. Water was so warm and great waves one day and super calm the next. House was basic but had everything you need. Having a boat, canoes etc to use was awesome. Martha and Scott are so helpful and available and you know they love the place, kids and dogs. Can’t wait to go back!

Best hosts ever
I read a lot of reviews before I chose this property, and I really got what I expected. Scott and Martha are above and beyond. They’re super nice people and also really dedicated hosts both before and throughout the stay. The location is unbeatable. The cottage is nice, but don’t expect perfection. As others mentioned the toilet doesn’t flush well, and the house could use a bit of work here and there. Since we were prepared for that we were not really bothered by it. The hosts, the views, the upstairs bedroom on the lake side(!!!) more than made up for it. There were 6 of us, 4 kids 2 adults, and we never felt crowded at all. We definitely plan to return.

Relaxing Weekend
During our stay, we had ideal weather the entire time. The location was great for my wife/I, as we enjoyed the bay on one side of the property and Lake Ontario on the opposite. We watched several eagles while sitting in our beach chairs. The sunsets each evening were a real treat to observe. Martha was helpful with answering any questions about the property and area. Would love to come back again. This time we would stay for longer than 3 days. Thanks Martha and Scott!

Scott and Martha were wonderful. This is our second stay in their small piece of paradise.
We love the experience of the big lake on one side of the cottage and bay on the other! We are water people. Scott and Martha’s cottages give you the feel of tropical ocean and lake living all in one! Martha went out of her way to give a special gift for my daughter for her second visit for her 21st birthday! Great people!
