Cabo San Lucas
Although there are many popular activities in Cabo San Lucas, including whale watching, ocean fishing and horseback riding , it is hard to go past this city’s beautiful beaches.
Situated on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico, the climate is tropical, and the sea is never cold. One of the area’s most popular beaches is Medano Beach, right in the heart of Cabo San Lucas. This is the largest area for safe swimming and is usually bustling with tourists, locals, vendors and volleyball players. It’s also a great spot to get involved with water sports such as boogie boarding and parasailing. In the early months of the year, go to Solmar Beach to see the whales that come close to the shoreline.
Take a trip out to the natural rock arc at Land’s End, and watch the sea lions and seals basking. Scuba diving tours allow you to witness black coral, sea turtles, manta rays, and possibly even a hammerhead shark. For the ultimate up-close-and-personal experience, go swimming with dolphins ; a number of companies around Cabo San Lucas provide this opportunity.
Sports fishing and deep-sea fishing are popular in Cabo San Lucas. Depending on the season, you can bag marlin, tuna, sailfish, wahoo, and yellowtail. To test your skill against other anglers, investigate the many fishing tournaments held in the area, including the Puerto Los Cabos World Cup and Bisbee’s Black & Blue, which offers millions of dollars in winnings.
Coffee shops are a key part of Cabo San Lucas culture. Take your pick from the many that line the beaches and other parts of town. Be sure to order a café de olla, a spiced Mexican coffee usually served in a clay pot. If you like your music live, get stuck into the salsa, marimba and mambo.
