FAQs which will apply from 10 November 2021
What is Expedia Rewards?
Expedia Rewards is a more rewarding way to travel when you create an Account with Expedia. It is a free program available exclusively to Expedia customers that gives members lower prices on select hotels with Member Prices, points for savings on future eligible bookings and more perks when you travel. We're making some changes from 10 November 2021 to the program. You can read more about some of the key changes hereOpens in a new window.
How it works
- You will earn points when you book travel on eligible stays, car hire, activities, packages and flights. The more points you earn, the more you can use towards future redemption rewards.
- Expedia Rewards has 3 tiers: Blue, Silver, and Gold. The higher the level, the better the potential rewards - you can learn more about these benefits here.
Good to know
- You may earn credit-card rewards points as well as Expedia Rewards points on applicable bookings.
- When you book flights, you may still be able to earn your airline frequent-flyer points.
- For additional information, read Expedia Rewards Terms and Conditions.
Earn Expedia Rewards Points
To begin earning Expedia Rewards points, create a new account or sign in to your existing account before you book.
How it works
- Earn 1 point for every AU$1 you spend on eligible stays, car hire, activities, and packages.
Note: Silver members benefit from 1 bonus point per AU$1 spent and Gold members from 2 bonus points per AU$1 spent for these booking types.
- Earn 1 point for every AU$5 you spend on eligible flights (sorry, flights booked directly via an airline's website, even if your original flight search was conducted on Expedia.com.au, are not eligible).
Hot tip for bonus points: Book on our mobile app and earn double points! Book a VIP Access stay and earn triple the points.*
* Bonus point offers are calculated on the base points earned for an eligible booking only and are not calculated on any bonus points earned for being Silver or Gold members, or otherwise.

Earn Expedia Rewards tier status
Expedia Rewards has 3 membership tiers:
- Upon joining Expedia Rewards, you'll automatically reach Blue tier.
- Reach Silver tier by collecting 10 Trip Elements in a calendar year.
- Reach Gold tier by collecting 25 Trip Elements in a calendar year.
You might be wondering, ‘what is a Trip Element?’
Whether you’re booking an eligible flight, a night stay, an activity, or even car rental, it can all count as a Trip Element and can help you progress towards your next Expedia Rewards tier.
A “Trip Element” is calculated in the following way for eligible bookings:
- Flights – 1 Trip Element per ticket (a roundtrip including stopover, a single flight, a leg of a multi-flight booking) where the booked flight itinerary is flown
- Hotels – 1 Trip Element per room per completed night stayed (regardless of the number of guests)
- Accommodation Rental (may have multiple rooms) – 1 Trip Element per completed night stayed
- Car – 1 Trip Element per completed car rental reservation
- Activities – 1 Trip Element per completed activity ticket booked
- Package – Based on the rules for each travel type listed above
Here’s some examples of how it can work:
- A completed three-night hotel stay for two people in a hotel room would give you 3 Trip Elements.
- A completed three-night hotel stay for four people in two hotel rooms would give you 6 Trip Elements (you’re awarded per room, per night).
- A completed three-night stay for four people in an eligible accommodation rental with multiple rooms would give you 3 Trip Elements.
- A completed three-night stay in a hotel room plus two roundtrip flights for two people would give you 5 Trip Elements.
- A completed seven-night stay in a hotel room, two roundtrip flights, two activity tickets and one car rented would give you 12 Trip Elements.
- Completed single flights or multi-leg flights would give you one Trip Element each. For example, a multi-leg flight from Sydney to Los Angeles, then a flight from Los Angeles to New York is 2 Trip Elements.
Your tier is valid from the day it is earned, for the following full calendar year, and expires on February 28 of the following year. For example, the tier reached in 2022 is valid from the day you earn it until February 28, 2024.

Good to know
- Trip Elements earned on a calendar year basis, from January 1st to December 31st will determine your tier for the following calendar year.
- Trip Elements for a booking spanning over two different years will be awarded in the respective years for room nights stayed or at the end of the trip for other types of bookings. You can earn Trip Elements for eligible bookings made with your Expedia Rewards account, regardless of who completes the travel.
- Only Trip Elements of AU$35 or more count toward Silver and Gold tier, after discounts or coupons are applied.
- You cannot collect Trip Elements for cancelled bookings or bookings made when not signed into your Expedia Rewards account.
- Trip Elements cannot be transferred to another Expedia Rewards account or between other Expedia sites.
- Any claims for missing Trip Elements must be submitted within 180 days from travel end date. Contact us and be sure to provide the contact details associated with your Expedia Rewards account and the itinerary number for which you have not received Trip Elements. We will review your request and credit your account for any approved claims. For more information, read the Expedia Rewards Terms and Conditions.
Important Information regarding the calculation of Trip Elements for the 2021 calendar year up to and including 9 November 2021
On 10 November 2021, we will convert your total spend on completed eligible bookings and the room nights stayed from 1 January to and including 9 November 2021 into Trip Elements (using the Trip Element calculation outlined above). You will collect the number of i) Trip Elements based on your actual eligible bookings in 2021 or ii) minimum Trip Elements applicable to your tier as at 9 November 2021, whichever is higher. As a result, you will either retain your current tier or progress to the next tier. You will see your Trip Elements calculation in your account by the end of November 2021.
