Visit a cliff-top town with ancient religious buildings, countryside scenery and close proximity to a small archipelago.

Situated inside a national park, Rodi Garganico is surrounded by picturesque splendour. The town sits on top of a promontory above the Adriatic Sea and is flanked by a green landscape of orchards that have made it an important producer of citrus fruits. Hike through the scenic environs, enjoy lazy days on a beach and tour ancient buildings.

Relax on one of the fine sandy beaches that lie beneath the town. These beaches include private bathing establishments and public areas. Enjoy excursions to other natural attractions within easy reach of the town. Go to the marina and book a boat tour of the rocky coastline and its numerous sea caves. You can also take a trip out to the Tremiti Islands, a five-island archipelago popular with divers and hiking enthusiasts. When you are back on the mainland, enjoy additional hiking opportunities in the Foresta Umbra.

Closer to town, stroll through orchards of lemon and orange trees. Rodi Garganico has a long tradition of growing citrus fruits, which is celebrated every May with the Festival of Oranges. Sample a variety of sweets, biscuits, jams and alcoholic drinks made from the fruit.

If you are a fan of history, the historic medieval quarter with its red tiled roof houses is a must, as are the old churches. Visit the Sanctuary of Madonna della Libera. Inside is a revered painting of the Virgin Mary and Jesus that arrived in the town in the 15th century. You can also see the sacred rock on which the painting miraculously appeared, according to legend. Explore the Church of San Pietro and an organ that’s more than 500 years old. Stop by the Convent of the Capuchins, which was built in 1538.

To experience the history, culture and magnificent landscapes of Rodi Garganico, fly to the international airport at BariOpens in a new window. From there, it’s about a 2-hour drive to the coastal town.
