Swim in the turquoise water, watch some of the world’s best surfers in action and tour a national park when you spend some time in this coastal area.
Whether you want to swim, stroll along the shoreline, doze under the sun or ride the waves, make your way to the beachside town of Gnarabup for fun and relaxation. Its attractive stretch of sand is also the main beach for the town of Prevelly.
Gnarabup's beach extends for 1.6 kilometres (1 mile) and is protected by a swathe of offshore reefs. This makes it a relatively safe swimming area. Spread out your towel and then go for a refreshing dip.
From the shoreline, you can see the Bombie and Boatramps surf breaks, which draw professional surfers to the beach. If you are keen to learn how to surf, book classes at the surf school in Prevelly. Other popular activities at the beach include snorkelling and paddleboarding. There is also a boat ramp at the beach’s southern end for those who want to get out on the water on a boat.
Further along the coast from Gnarabup is Surfer’s Point, scene of the annual Margaret River Pro Surf Competition. It is typically held in April and attracts the best male and female surfers in the world.
Bring a picnic with you to Gnarabup’s beach or stop for refreshments at the nearby café. It is open daily throughout the year and boasts some wonderful sea views from its terrace.
Take advantage of Gnarabup's close proximity to several places of interest for some sightseeing. Visit the hillside Greek chapel at Prevelly, tour local wineries such as the Voyager Estate and explore the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. Here you can go bushwalking, surfing, abseiling and venture into limestone caves.
Gnarabup is situated just 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) from the town of Margaret River. It is a good place for a daytrip or if you are looking to base yourself somewhere while exploring the Margaret River Wine Region.
