Cappadocia is a region of Turkey famous for its long, complex religious history and fantastic rock formations. On this 2-day tour from Goreme, explore the area’s history as an early centre of Christianity and learn about the complex geology that created its magnificent, otherworldly landscapes.

Start by making your way through an ancient monastic complex in the Goreme Valley carved out of a mountain’s living stone. These famous churches were one of the most important centers of early Christianity. Then attend a ceramics workshop and learn about the red clay that made this region a famous for its pottery production.

The next day it’s on to the Derinkuyu Underground City, a spectacular complex of underground and partially-subterranean dwellings, stables, and a majestic cathedral, all carved directly into the soft sandstone. Between stops, visit wine cellars, olive oil refineries, and delicious local restaurants and stay in a luxurious hotel.

Day 1: Early Christianity in Cappadocia

Day 2: Derinkuyu and Nar Crater
Go for a short hike in the Ihlara Valley before visiting the magnificent underground city of Derinkuyu, then head to Nar Crater.
