Akagera is the only Park in Africa you can fully cover in one day. From the southern gate to the north spotting the big 5, birds, and aquatic animals. Being in the country of Thousand Hills makes it unique. A combination of hilly landscapes marked with open savannah and more than 10 lakes including Ihema, Rwanda's second largest rift valley lake. It simply offers magnificent views and encounters.

Along the game driver, you’ll learn about the wildlife and get to know interesting stories about how these beautiful creatures live. Akagera National Park is home to Rwanda’s big five mammals, more than 500 bird species, and several other wildlife species including the Rhinos, Lions, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Zebras, Elephants, antelopes, impalas, Hippos, and so much more which will give you the best photographic safari moments.
Itinerary and Packing List
You will be picked up from your accommodation early in the morning, and then take on the journey driving to Kayonza district in the Eastern province of Rwanda.
The 2.5-hour journey to Akagera National Park will reward you with planned en-route stopovers along the route mesmerised by the landscape views of Rwanda’s beautiful nature and scenery. Feel free to ask your driver-guide questions about the wonderful scenery and even request photographic stopovers along the way.
When you arrive at the park, while the guide will be organising the entrance permit, you will receive a briefing about the safari and learn about the park's history.
Stretch your legs and get ready to embark on the game drive.
We shall be expectant to see the big five safari games such as Lions, Rhinos, Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Antelopes, leopards, and Baboons, among others. Akagera National Park is a varied habitat for wildlife species in Rwanda and a birder's haven with more than 500 bird species in the park.
After the game drive which takes up to 6 hours depending on your schedule, you will have your picnic lunch and then exit the park through the northern gate to start the journey back to Kigali. We will drop you to your chosen destination (Hotel or airport)
Note: We use comfortable 4x4 Cars for all our tours. The pop-up roof safari vehicle starts for a group of more than 2 people.
