WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO VISIT?
He was known as “the Ripper”, but the fear he instilled was just as terrible as his London counterpart Jack. We will meet at the Pedro Menéndez sculpture to begin our tour of the mysteries and legends of Avilés. Along the way we will discover many other legends like this one. Are you ready?
After learning about the adventures of the Ripper, whose case was even investigated in the television programme Cuarto Milenio, we will continue our night walk through Avilés towards the Balsera Palace. This building, now the Municipal Conservatory, has a disturbing ghostly legend related to a spectre that supposedly wanders around the building at night. What is the rational explanation, if any, for this curious storey?
Opposite the Palacio de Balsera is the church of San Nicolás de Bari, located on the site of a former Franciscan convent. The church is also the subject of several intriguing historical enigmas that we will try to solve during the walk.
Next to the west side of the church we will admire the fountain of the Caños de San Francisco. What do the heads of this fountain want to tell us as they stare defiantly at us? Our next stop will be in front of the Camposagrado Palace, linked to a murky storey involving corpses decapitated in this place by the French 200 years ago?
We will finish the tour in the Parque del Muelle, next to the Avilés estuary. What last mystery will this place hold for us?
