What you can expect

Uncover the spiritual wonder and historical appeal of Barcelos—a small town in the Braga district—on this half-day guided tour. With its delightful churches, baroque houses, significant market, and rich pottery culture, this town has plenty of charisma and charm to discover.

Barcelos is a small township renowned for its handmade ceramics, such as the Galo de Barcelos, a colourful cockerel that's a well-recognized symbol of Portugal. Explore the town's central square, Campo da Feira, which hosts one of the best-known markets in the country every Thursday morning. Selling a range of products, from traditional ceramics and rugs to fresh vegetables and tasty cheese, it attracts many locals and tourists.

Wander around the outside of the square, where come across the 18th-century Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário and the Church of Bom Jesus da Cruz, which is richly decorated with gilt, tile panels, and extravagant chandeliers. Then traverse along the riverside to see the Parish Church—a 13th-century building with Romanesque and Gothic influences—as well a 15th-century palace that once belonged to the Duke of Braganza, now an open-air museum.
