Bisceglie is a pretty little town 35 kilometres north of Bari, close to Trani and Barletta. The guided route will begin from the historic centre, rich in churches and palaces of the 16th and 17th centuries.
During the tour, you will visit the Saint Peter Apostle of 1073 A.D. in Romanesque Apulian style with relics inside of the Saints Martyrs Mauro, Sergio and Pantaleone. The tour will continue in the historical centre with the visit of some of the most important noble palaces such as Frisari Palace and Tupputi Palace and the Church of Sant'Adoeno, also of Romanesque style and built in the same year as the cathedral.
Taste the typical sweet Sospiro biscegliese. According to a local legend, on the occasion of the wedding of Lucrezia Borgia, Countess of Bisceglie with Alfonso of Aragon, the clerics of the Monastery of St. Louis prepared these sweets, which proclaim the weddings of the two nobles. It is a light sponge cake made with egg and flour flavoured with lemon zest. Its interior is stuffed with a cream with milk and vanilla, all covered with a thin sugar icing. The tour will end at the 27 metre high tower and the ruins of the Swabian Angevin Castle.
