What you can expect
We will meet in the Marina di Sant'Elmo, Cagliari. After the mooring lines have been untied and the sailboat is motoring through the harbour waters to reach the open sea, I will explain some basic safety rules about staying on board and briefly talk about sailing principles. These are the moments when most likely dolphins will be spotted, as they got the habit to swim inside the harbour to feed with the abundant mullet fish.
As soon as we exit the harbour, sails will be hoisted; Merak (my Beneteau First 33.7 sailboat) is equipped with a large and efficient number of sails, which make sailing enjoyable in any wind condition, weak, medium or strong. The usual destination is the Sella del Diavolo promontory (“Devil's Saddle”), named after an old legend, which will told in details. We will drop anchor to swim in crystal clear waters in a beautiful bay, at the foot of a high white cliff. Fish abund in these waters, and they are eager to receive food from us, while swimming among them.I will swim with you to a small cave with purple walls, and you can take underwater photographs using your smartphone using an underwater case that I will lend you.
After swimming, a light sandwich and drinks will be offered.
If there is enough time left, we will sail in front of Poetto beach.
While sailing, according to individual preferences, we can talk about different topics: touristic attractions in Sardinia, interesting aspect of local history, but also about more in-depth personal life experiences, in order to create special moments for each individual participant.
A very fortunate moment might be a close encounter with the amazingly fast Luna Rossa sailing boat, which practices for the October 2024 Americas Cup here in the Gulf of Cagliari.
Typically, the morning experience is ideal for swimmers, as it is usually less windy, and the afternoon tour is ideal for sailing in cooler winds.
