We pick you up from any hotel in Arequipa's city centre 10 minutes before your scheduled tour time and head to our gear house to set you up with your river gear. You'll change into wetsuits and safety gear and we'll head to the river via the beautiful drive through the Chilina Valley to the Virgen de Chapi-Charcani Sanctuary, a small church along side the Chilli River where your tour begins. Before entering the water our guides will give a brief lesson on river safety and rescue, as well as explain the role of the rafting guides and the safety kayaker.
The first section of rapids is Class II and useful for practising rowing technique and river safety. Next, we will run an exciting Class III section where you are sure to get a little wet! The next section is Class IV, the strongest rapids you'll encounter (if you are not feeling up for the challenge of Class IV rapids, you have the option to get out of the raft and walk a short distance to meet up with the rafts for the final Class III section ā almost everyone is up for the whitewater, but we're more than happy to accommodate those who aren't). After an exhilarating run through the Class IV rapids we will stop where swimming and cliff jumping is an option if you don't feel like you have got wet enough already! The final 15 minute stretch before we hop out of the river is Class III with sizeable rapids.
Upon leaving the river, you'll change out of your wetsuits and gear and make a quick stop at our storehouse for a snack. We'll drive you back to the Plaza de Armas to enjoy the rest of your day in the white city.
