What you can expect

You will enjoy this great journey where we will first delve into the history of a grand city located at the top of a mountain. Monte Albán is the major urban centre built by the Zapotec culture, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, and it is the most important archaeological site in the state of Oaxaca, characterised by a large plaza in the centre. In this archaeological tour, you will get to know the most important archaeological site in the state of Oaxaca, “Monte Albán,” the majestic regional urban centre, unique for the religious, political, and economic control exercised by the Zapotec community. You will learn all about the history of each of the parts that make up this wonderful place, visit the main square of the site, and don't forget to take the best photographs from the top of its pyramids. And, before moving on to the next stop, visit the museum where you will find the original pieces that have been rescued from this place.

Another of the places to visit is full of magic, colours, and tradition, “San Antonio Arrazola.” When you arrive, you will realise that all your senses are on edge, as the famous artisans will show you how they carve Copal wood, explaining the entire process required to obtain the logs for carving, as part of an ancestral Zapotec tradition, giving rise to unreal and magical figures called “Alebrijes,” which represent the innovative spirit of the Oaxacan soul. This is a process in which even the youngest family members participate to preserve this beautiful tradition.

To continue this fantastic journey, we enter a small village of adobe houses, “San Bartolo Coyotepec,” where a world-famous treasure is preserved known as black clay. In this place, you will learn about the process of crafting beautiful black clay figures. You can't miss it!
