What you can expect

Join a local guide and get up close to Uluru on a 10.5km hike around the amazing formation. Learn about the rich Aboriginal culture and stories along the way.

Rise before dawn and travel to Uluru, the famed monolith of the Red Centre, to catch the spectacular hues of the sunrise over the outback landscape. Warm up with a hot drink and light breakfast then trek around the base, learning about the tale of the Lungkata and the significance of the mala hare-wallaby as you go.

With the trail now illuminated in the light of day, embark on your walking tour around Uluru's base at the sacred Aboriginal site of Kuniya Piti. Hear the legends and history of the Anangu people and pass by native flora like bloodwood eucalyptus. Your guide shares the importance of the mala hare-wallaby, a species recently reintroduced to the area—the Anangu believe that the Mala Tjukurpa are ancestral beings that watch over them, and they are celebrated in ceremony, song, dance, and art.

Stop at the majestic Kantju Gorge, where rainwater cascades and tumbles down 295 feet (90 m) onto giant boulders below, before returning to your coach to leave Uluru and its fascinating history behind.

Admire Aboriginal rock paintings at the Mutitjulu Waterhole, and listen to the Tujukurpa tale of the Lungkata, a blue-tongued lizard man.
