What you can expect

Often referred to as simply “The Rocks,” the tide-eroded sandstone formations of Hopewell are a New Brunswick icon and one of the Marine Wonders of the World. Explore the hiking trails at both high and low tide to take in spectacular views of these rocky wonders from every angle.

Located on the coast of the glacier-carved Bay of Fundy, the Hopewell Rocks tower 40–70 feet (12–21 m) above the sand. These sandstone monoliths have been moulded and shaped by the ebb and flow of the tides. At low tide, walk beneath the shadows of the so-called “flower pot rocks,” and when the waters rush in 6 hours later, you can paddle around the same coves and formations by kayak.

Check out the exhibits at the visitor centre to learn about the natural history of the rocks and the tidal phenomena and get a look at the human history in the area, then chat with helpful interpretive staff members as you explore the award-winning site. Trek over the site’s walking trails, and stand on elevated decks to marvel at the world’s highest tides as they sweep over the rocks and change the scenery completely.
