What you can expect
Start your tour at the Mendelssohn-Haus. Here, you will have a chance to visit the museum in this house that was opened in the honour of Felix Mendelssohn, the great musician, on his 150th death anniversary.
Walk by the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, the concert hall of Leipzig and dwell into the melodies of its acoustics.
See the city’s largest square known as Augustusplatz which is also a central hub for the tram service. As we continue, you will walk by the Egyptian Museum where you will see the 43m high clock tower with the symbol of the Augustus square on its roof.
Visit the Nikolaikirche (St. Nicholas Church). Here, you will see the Romanesque style architecture of the Church which was later transformed into the Gothic style.
You will see one of the oldest Universities in the world and the second oldest university in Germany. Continue on to the Alte Börse where you will also see the old stock exchange (also known as Alte Handelsbörse) It dates back to the 17th century and was used to serve as a gathering place for merchants.
Walk by the Altes Rathaus (the City hall). Next, You will visit a museum known as Stadtgeschichtliches that depicts the history and culture of Leipzig. It houses artwork, crafts, documents & other artefacts related to the city’s history.
Visit the Marktplatz. Here, you will see a historical market square where you can see the old town hall along with old buildings.
Next you will see the St. Thomas Church, also known as Thomaskirche, a Lutheran church dating back to the 12th Century.
Have a chance to visit the Bach museum where you get to see its interactive musical displays and original manuscripts. As we continue, You will see the new town hall along with the main tower that is the tallest city hall tower in Germany. You will also have a chance to see one of the oldest Botanical Gardens in the world.
Finish your tour at the Monument to the Battle of the Nations, a monument that commemorates Napoleon's defeat at Leipzig, which was a crucial step towards the end of hostilities in the war of the sixth coalition.
