Overview

Perhaps Spain is best known for its red grape variety, Tempranillo. But it's not all big, alcoholic red wines on offer, which we'll show you in our one-day tour to the appellation of Rueda, well-known for producing white wines from the local variety Verdejo.

Join us as we navigate underground cellars and learn about this appellation once known as 'Tierra de Medina' that produced a fortified, rancio-style wine lauded and protected by Queen Isabella.

Rueda is the oldest D.O. in Castilla y León, and we'll help you get to know the wines by showing you two wineries and having a tasting of local wines with a local oenologist.

Our next stop will start in the vineyard where we'll discuss the cycle of the vine before heading back to the winery for tasting of three wines.
Matapozuelos

Lunch (self-pay) We'll head to the villagge of Matapozuelos where you can choose the eat a one-star michelin restaurant or a local tavern. Lunch options include a tasting menu or the more taditional dish of lechazo, which is suckling lamb.
Rueda

Our last stop is in a special place located in Rueda. An underground tunnel system dating back to the 14th century. Here we will have a tasting of wines from the D.O. of Rueda alongside a local oenologist to wrap up the visit and leave with a full understanding of this wine region famous for its white wines.

Our first visit will be at a historic winery with ties to the monks where we'll visit the underground cellars before witnessing a vinification process where wine is oxidised outside in demijons, somethin not largely practised today, but a very important piece of history in Rueda. After a tour of the winery, we'll doing a guided tasting.
