The tour begins when you meet our expert and friendly guides by the car park of Jokulsarlon the glacier lagoon. They will be waiting for you with a sign by our Superjeep. After you have hopped on the vehicle, you will drive with your group to the cave. The drive itself is exciting and bumpy! Your expert guide will make sure you feel safe at all times and learn absolutely everything there is to know about the area as you travel on our modified monster lorry.
Once you arrive in the area that are home to the caves, you’ll take a short hike through the landscape to the cave where you can learn about the world-famous Vatnajokull glacier from your guide, who will also share with you some knowledge about the area. Make sure you bring comfortable pants, a warm jumper and a waterproof layer on top of it, in case it rains. Remember you are travelling in winter in Iceland!
Afterwards, your guide will show you how to put on the crampons, steel frames which are tied to your hiking boots and make it possible for you to walk on the glacier before you reach the world-famous blue ice cave. This stunning phenomenon is a must see for anyone visiting Iceland during wintertime and one of Iceland’s most famous tours. During this tour, you’ll be standing inside an ancient glacier that holds a natural blue ice cave with different shades of blue colours and formations.
The structure and condition of the caves can vary greatly each year. Our guide decides which cave to visit every day depending on safety and weather conditions. Once there, you will have plenty of time to take that one picture you will frame and share with everyone back home. After happy memories are created, you’ll return happy and warm to continue your travels.
