The long half-moon-shaped sandy beach, which is also the seafront of the city, is known for its magnificence and the vivid coloured tiles that decorate the white sandy beach in contrast to the blue of the water. Facing the sea, on the right side, we see an impressive promontory. This is the Sitio, where we have one of the best-known panoramas of the Portuguese coast. There are 318 metres of rock falling to the peak to the sea, to which one reaches on foot, for the most courageous, or by lifting. Currently, the great attraction of this city is the waves and surfing, thanks to the “Canhão da Nazaré”, an underwater geomorphological phenomenon that allows the formation of giant and perfect waves. It is the largest underwater slope in Europe, with about 170 kilometres along the coast, which reaches a depth of 5000 metres.
