A complete tour into prehistory to discover the Nuragic civilisation. A tour to discover one of the most important archaeological sites of the entire island, the “Su Nuraxi” nuraghe of Barumini, a Unesco World Heritage Site and of the basaltic plateau of Giara.
Impressive in size and construction, “Su Nuraxi” shows us what wonders people so distant in time and apparently primitive were capable of.
A real journey through time to discover the Nuragic civilisation, which developed between the 18th and 3rd century BC. The Nuragic palace of Barumini, a majestic megalithic construction that we will visit from the inside, is one of the largest and most famous on the island and boasts the distinction of being the first Nuragic evidence to be investigated by a scientific archaeological excavation.
Next we move to the Giara di Gesturi park (vulcanic plateau), along an easy and fascinating route, immersed in a unique environment among ponds, cork groves where live the Giara horses, the last wild horses in Europe.
Also known as Sa Jara Manna, it takes its name from the Latin word glarea, or gravel, in reference to the stony appearance of the soil. The plateau, dating back 2 million years ago and located between the municipalities of Gesturi, Tuili, Genoni and Setzu, is full of natural pools (paulis) immersed in cork, holm oak and wild olive woods.
