What you can expect

Just north of Seoul, one of the world's most unique frontiers offers a look at the conflict that divided Korea in two. Join a personal guide to explore the Demilitarised Zone left behind by the Korean War, and get a new look at the legacy of the conflict between North and South.

After you're picked up from your hotel, take the Freedom Highway on your way to Imjingak. Built to give solace to Koreans who were forced from their homes by the fighting, the park features a number of monuments as well as the Bridge of Freedom, which was used to repatriate prisoners of war.

Pay a visit to the DMZ Theatre and the Exhibition hall before you step into the Third Infiltration Tunnel, a path discovered in 1978 that reaches under the Demilitarised Zone and ends only 27 miles (44 km) from Seoul. Still incomplete when it was discovered, the tunnel might have carried more than 30,000 North Korean soldiers and heavy weapons, undetected, in less than an hour had it been finished.

Next, head to the Dora Observatory, where you can look into North Korea for a view of Mount Songhaksan and the Kaesong Industrial Zone, built on the outskirts of Korea's medieval capital. On your way back to Seoul, stop at the Ginseng and Amethyst Centre before you finish the tour at either the Itaewon or Myeong-dong station.
