What you can expect

Explore Rarotonga from the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle as a private guide takes you on a fascinating historical tour of the island. Stop at important sites from centuries past, and discover the island's rich culture, legends, and heritage from a local.

Your guide choices you up at your hotel and sets a course along the ancient Ara Metua, or “Road of Toi,” which was built in 1050 AD and travels the circumference of the island. Visit St. Joseph Catholic church, Arai Te Tonga Marae, a series of centuries-old maraes (ceremonial sites), Avarua Cook Islands Christian Church.

Make your way to Ngatangiia to hear the tale of the Cook Islanders who colonised New Zealand, travelling across the South Pacific in 7 Canoes, and then spend some time among the cultural and historical displays of the National Museum and the Cook Islands Library and Museum.

You will also visit a fascinating historical exhibition at Te Ara Museum—a large two storey building that houses artwork by Mahiriki Tangaroa, legends and history about the Cook Islands, a conference room, fish aquariums and much more.

To complete your tour, you will enjoy a delicious lunch.
