What you can expect

Songbirds whistle, towering birch trees rustle overhead, and waterfalls cascade through ancient ravines in the World Heritage rainforest around Kuranda. Take it all in as you're introduced to aboriginal culture, go for a Duck ride, and get up close to native wildlife and exotic butterflies.

Ride through the densely forested hillsides as you approach Kuranda—the village is nestled in the heart of the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage site. Shop for artwork and crafts in its atmospheric market, and then make your way to the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. Wander the gardens of the country's largest butterfly aviary as green Cairns Birdwings, and lacy-winged orchard butterflies alight on your shoulders and flutter nearby.

The adventure continues at the Rainforestation Nature Park. Climb aboard an amphibious, World War II-era Duck vehicle for a land and water tour through the rainforest. Pass by a fruit orchard filled with ripe mangos and fragrant lychees, and then ease into a tropical waterway. Keep your eyes peeled for pythons in the trees, water dragons on the riverbanks, and tiny turtles swimming alongside the Duck.

Indigenous guides greet you as you take a seat for the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience. Dancers and didgeridoo players introduce you to the music and customs of the region's native inhabitants, and you can even pick up techniques for throwing a boomerang.

Your last stop is at the Koala and Wildlife Park, where all kinds of uniquely Australian creatures are waiting to make your acquaintance. Kangaroos hop, wombats snooze, and even the elusive cassowary bird makes a shy appearance before you leave.
