The Royal Gorge Route Railway is Colorado's top train experience and America's most scenic railway. The Royal Gorge Route Railway is Colorado's most historic rail line, built in the late 1800s during the Silver boom when the two warring railway companies fought for rights to this coveted canyon. Ultimately, the Denver & Rio Grande won the Royal Gorge War, and in 1882 the Royal Gorge Route became a transcontinental rail link between Denver and Salt Lake.
