After a short history of the city, we discover the secrets of the medieval monastery of Nossa Senhora da Graca, including a secret crypt, the site of a jaw-dropping discovery in 2017! From there we walk over graves hidden near the monastery and visit an old freemason hangout. Passing by some stunning street art, we go down to Mouraria to see the spot where the city's great Fado music started 200 years ago. Nearby we visit another medieval cemetery and hear about its inhabitants and the city's oldest well, now tucked away inside a hotel. We proceed to the Doll's Hospital, where we learn about the history of the establishment and view its secret door! We see the site of the Roman hippodrome and a medieval hospital, before entering the Independence Palace with its secret garden - a place very few people visit. Outside, in Largo dos Domingos I tell you about the great massacre of the city's Jews in 1506 and we visit the burned-out Dominican Church. Passing by Rossio Square I tell you stories of the spies and Jewish refugees who used the cafes of the square in WW2. Walking down one of Lisbon's oldest streets - going back to Roman times - I tell you about the casinos and nightclubs where Lisbon's Roaring 20s happened. We finish the tour in a beautiful former palace decorated in the Moorish style.
