What you can expect

Embark on a 4-day guided walking tour of the Southern Ocean Walk, a spectacular section of the Heysen Trail on the Fleurieu Peninsula. This walk offers a mix of coastal cliffs, dense forests, and pristine beaches, showcasing a variety of wildlife, year-round waterfalls, and panoramic ocean views.

Day 1: Cape Jervis to Deep Creek
Meet your guide at Cape Jervis, the starting point of the Heysen Trail. Begin with an easy coastal walk to Fisheries Beach, passing secluded coves and winter streams flowing to the Southern Ocean. Elevated viewpoints offer stunning views of Backstairs Passage, the waterway between the mainland and Kangaroo Island.

Continue towards Deep Creek Conservation Park, where the landscape shifts from grasslands to dense forests. A highlight is Blow Hole Beach, with its sparkling waters, before climbing to Cobbler Hill. A short transfer takes you to your accommodation in Deep Creek for a relaxing evening with pre-dinner drinks.

Day 2: Exploring Deep Creek
Start the day at Cobbler Hill and follow the trail through Aaron Creek and Tent Rock Creek, eventually reaching the Deep Creek waterfall. The path weaves through open woodlands and thick bushland, showcasing native flora like ancient grass trees and wildflowers. Pause at the year-round waterfall to relax and enjoy the soothing sound of cascading waters.

Next, climb to Tapanappa Ridge, where you’ll be greeted by Western Grey Kangaroos and panoramic views of the Southern Ocean. Take in the breathtaking scenery before heading back to your accommodation for the night.

Day 3: Deep Creek to Tunkalilla Beach
From Tapanappa Ridge, take in 180° views over the Southern Ocean, with nothing but open water to the horizon. The crisp ocean air is among the cleanest you’ll breathe. The trail then leads through Pink Gum forests, where the roar of the ocean fades and finches flit across the path.

As you approach Boat Harbour, the vegetation opens to reveal a secluded cove, a common spot for dolphins. Continue through Deep Creek Conservation Park to the beautiful Tunkalilla Beach, a remote spot of sand and surf.

Day 4: Tunkalilla Beach to Newland Head Conservation Park
The final day begins with a panoramic view of Parsons Beach, before following the coastline to Waitpinga Beach. Walk along this secluded stretch, feeling the sand beneath your feet as ocean waves crash nearby.

A short climb brings you to the Newland Cliffs, where you’ll find excellent photo opportunities. Keep an eye out for white-bellied sea eagles that breed in the area. The trail then descends to King Beach, just outside Victor Harbour, bringing the Southern Ocean Walk to a close.
