We will begin our visit in the Plaza Mayor of Trujillo, one of the most beautiful in Spain. In this central place in the municipality of Cáceres we will observe the famous equestrian sculpture of the conqueror of the Inca Empire, present-day Peru: Francisco de Pizarro. We will also contemplate the Renaissance architecture of its beautiful palaces and the Church of San Martín de Tours, palaces such as the Duke of San Carlos and the Marquesado de la Conquista among others.
The route through Trujillo will continue heading towards the Palace of Juan Orellana Pizarro through the Cañón de la Cárcel and we leave the Plaza Mayor behind. We will continue towards the Plaza de los Descalzos and “La Alberca”, a cistern dating from the 10th century.
We will continue the tour through the narrow streets of the old town of Trujillo, an area of great monumental heritage due to the concentration of various houses of hidalgos who left for the New World in search of fame, honour and fortune. We headed to the highest area of the city where the church of Santa María La Mayor was built on top of an old mosque. We will arrive at the viewpoint of the nuns where we can see the Trujillo Alcazaba, dated as the second oldest in Europe. And we will finish in the Plaza Mayor, where we began the visit.
