Pako, your lead host, a Mexico City Chilango, has travelled 90+ countries, is a football fanatic (7 World Cups), best known for his dreadlocks and easy-going demeanour and a passion to share the magic of Xochimilco, just like his Abuela (grandma) when she offered trajineras tours decades ago.

The TOUR: (2.5-3 hours)
After arriving at Embarcadero Caltongo in Xochimilco your host will meet you and welcome you onboard one of our colourful Trajinera boats. As your boatman guides the Trajinera through the canals you will see and experience many unique Mexican traditions.

We offer complimentary Caguama (32oz Mexican beer), Pako’s abuela’s favourite tequila, water and chicken or veggie taquitos.

Live Mariachi music is abundant and a MUST DO! Your guide will help select a Mariachi band floating by to join our trajinera and play favourite songs. Singalong, dance and be merry!

Visit unique spaces such as the “Island of the Dead Dolls” and learn the folklore of how and why this legend came to be and still exists today!

Score souvenirs handmade by Chilangos (locals) artisans selling traditional handicrafts such as silver jewellery, Mexican Flower Crowns (just like Frida Kahlo), ponchos, blankets, sombreros and more.

Home chefs throughout the canals offer a variety of authentic and delicious dishes such as Mexican Street Corn ‘Elotes’, Chayote, freshly fried Chicharrons and Salsa de Chapulines (grasshoppers).

Sip on traditional favourites like Michelada, a beer cocktail with tomato juice, chilli spices, and lime, and served with a salty spiced rim or Pulque, fermented Agave sap and available in flavours like Mango, Pina Colada, Marzipan, and many more.

Visit the Reptile Centre on the lake to see the adorable and mysterious Axolotl, the endangered aquatic salamander that has the unique ability to regenerate its body parts and is only found in its native Lake Xochimilco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Engage with snakes, lizards, owls and other exotic critters native to Mexico.

Public bathrooms are available throughout the Tour, just ask your guide for a pit stop whenever nature calls. Our loading dock is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
