Friendly check in, gorgeous historic building. Room was great, bed and pillows comfortable, fresh. Charger ports on night stands. The water - lake view was absolutely worth the sunrise over Lake Michigan! Parked in. GRANT Parking South underground lot for about half the $62 parking next to the hotel, very short walk with our bags was easy. Loved the charming room, lux plank flooring, the hallway carpets were freshly shampood. Old buildings are quirky, the hot water was neither left nor right, just lift the handle straight up. Glad we figured it out. Plenty of water pressure, beautifully updated spaces. We Brought our own pillows after reading reviews, and that was unneccesary, as the bed and bedding were great. They offer free cookies in the vending/snack area. Will love to stay here again. Great prices at a venerable place! Fantastic history of president's speeches and more.

This is our 3rd stay. We stay here when attending an event at Soldier Field. It’s very walkable. The hotel could use some real love! Our corner suite, rm #701 was expensive. I thought it would be better than the standard rooms that go for way less a night. Nope, I was wrong. You do not get what you pay for here! Our room was huge, but the furniture was old cracked and ripped. The bed was hard! The pillows were worse than the bed. The bathroom was huge but when we turned the shower on, it sprayed everywhere!!! We had to cover the floor with towels. The room was clean, no complaints. The night staff at the entrance was rude when we arrived at 11pm, as we walked in, he rudely shouted at us, “Hello!… room key!”, excuse me goes a long way. They were standing there shooting the bs with each other, I had no idea they were staff. Staff needs manners talking to people that way. I get security but that’s unprofessional. If we stay again, I will pay for the cheaper room. This hotel is only good for the location.

The dumpiest $300 a night hotel on earth? Probably! So much potential for this to be an incredible, historic hotel. Unfortunately, it hasn't been upgraded in any way in what seems like probably 30 years. No exaggeration. The tv in the bedroom was from 2001. You can do so much better for the price in the area, avoid at all costs.

This hotel fit the bill for location and price. Parts of it are historical and stunning. But some areas, like the room where we stayed, was so old as to not really be "clean" regardless of the excellent effort by staff. This in itself isn't that big a deal, but the pillows were lumpy (yes, lumpy!), there was no way to control the temperature (we were cold), and there were no extra blankets. But worst of all was the rock hard mattress. If you suffer from arthritis, you might want to stay at a different hotel. My hip pain after 4 nights was unbearable, leaving me to rely heavily on meds. The staff was pleasant, amenities good, location wonderful. This tired old hotel needs an injection of big, big money to bring it back to life.

The shower temperature was virtually impossible to control. The volume was impossible. Water was squirting out of the shower head threads all over the room and created large puttles on the floor. Had to use all the towels just to prevent a falling hazard.
