Despite its small size, Anson Bay Beach is one of the island’s most arresting coastal destinations. The beach hugs the base of a soaring cliff face that hooks across from Anson Point. Appreciate the stunning beach view from the lookout at the top of the cliff and make your way down the winding trail to reach the sandy stretch at the bottom. Strolling along this secret cove, the only footprints in the sand are likely to be your own.
Check out the views from the top of Anson Bay. You’ll see a sweeping panorama of pinewoods rising out of the rugged cliff top to the north. The woods stretch west toward the point before giving way to grassy bluffs. On the other side of the bay, pine trees grow almost at the shoreline. Take photographs of the waves crashing against the rocks that frame the bay. There is a lovely picnic spot situated near the lookout. Bring some snacks or something to grill on the barbecues and have a meal overlooking the bay.
If you’re feeling adventurous, follow the winding path down to the sandy beach. The trail is quite steep and can be challenging in places, but you’ll be rewarded with the gorgeous sandy expanse of Anson Bay Beach for your effort. Appreciate the quiet beauty of this beach as you look out across the ocean. Swimming is not advised, as the beach has unpredictable rip tides and a deep underwater drop a short distance from the shoreline. Occasionally this beach gets a large swell and is visited by local surfers.
With the right timing, you can admire magnificent sunset views after your climb back up to the cliff-top lookout. Bring some drinks to enjoy as you watch the sun sink into the South Pacific Ocean.
Anson Bay Beach is located on the island’s northwestern corner. The lookout is easy to access from the road that hugs the contours of the west coast. Park your car for free in the lot situated alongside the picnic area and lookout. Bring plenty of water and sun protection when you visit the beach.
