Pristine Ao Phra Nang Beach is popular for its range of activities and accommodation catering to all budgets. Often referred to as “Ao Nang”, the area offers unspoiled beauty, from the clean and clear water to the white sand and tree-topped limestone cliffs. Come to relax beneath a palm tree or get active with a number of outdoor activities.
Luxury resorts line the oceanfront at Ao Nang while affordable hostels cater to backpackers and travellers on a budget. No matter where you stay, you’ll never be more than a short stroll from the Andaman Sea.
The beach is ideal for lounging, with palm trees providing adequate shade. Pay for a massage or buy a snack from vendors who sell their wares along the sand.
If you want to get active, hire a snorkel, kayak or canoe and explore the water and bays around the beach. Tour operators run scuba diving trips for beginners to experienced divers. Get out of the water and go rock climbing along the limestone cliffs. If you’re a novice and want to learn or just need to touch up on your skills, take a lesson from one of the climbing schools based beneath the cliffs.
The town itself has plenty of shops, restaurants and bars and a lively nightlife. Buy souvenirs and choose between traditional Thai food and international cuisine at outdoor restaurants. While the area has become more populated in recent years, and therefore more commercial, you’ll still find plenty of untouched nature and even wildlife. Watch out for monkeys swinging through the trees and tropical fish in the blue waters. Ao Nang is a quintessential tropical island getaway and the views along the beach are stunning.
The water is warm and the sun shines year-round in Ao Nang. Use the resort as a base to explore nearby destinations including Ko Phi Phi, Ko Kai and Ko Lanta. The islands are all easy to reach by ferry.
Get to Ao Phra Nang Beach by taxi or shuttle from Krabi International Airport, a short 20-minute trip.
