The Bali Bird Park is home to around 1,000 birds and 250 different species. Rather than display birds in traditional aviaries, Bali Bird Park has created lush tropical habitats, divided into geographical regions. Exotic plants and butterflies surround you and as you walk around the special trails and walkways, it's almost as if you're venturing into the wilds of various countries.
Begin by meeting some of Bali's native jungle birds. These include the very rare Bali starling, known for its gleaming white appearance. Explore the Far East Indonesia area to marvel at incandescent birds and the Komodo dragon, a direct descendent of the dinosaur. Walk through a recreation of the South African wilds and delight in toucans, Congo grey parrots and scarlet macaws. On your travels you'll also run into Javan hawks, serpent eagles, and the bizarre looking western crowned pigeon. See how many of the different bird calls you can make out. Bring your camera too this is far easier than attempting to snap pictures of these birds in their own habitats!
Bali Bird Park puts on interactive feeding schedules daily. Join a keeper, and have birds flock around to get to their food older children in particular will love this. At the Free Bird Flight Show, see owls, hawks and eagles soar overhead. Have parrots perch on your shoulder at Guyu Guyu Corner. There's more hands-on fun to be had at Meet the Bird Star, where you'll make new beaked friends. See new-born birds in their incubators at the Bird Nursery an incredibly touching, not to mention educating experience.
There is lots to see at Bali Bird Park. Allow a morning or afternoon to make the most of it. The attraction is open every day, bar Hindu New Year. Bali Bird Park is in Singapuda, between Kuta and Ubud, north-east of Denpasar. Catch a bus from Batubulan terminal, or take a taxi.
