If visiting Koh Samui, spend a little more to stay on Koh Phangan instead. It is all round better and people are friendlier, as well as being cleaner and without the smell of garbage.

Generally we liked Koh Samui. The island in not as developed as Phuket, but does seem to be heading that way too. The locals were generally very friendly. Koh Samui airport is interesting and a nice way to enter the island.

Koh Samui can be very loud and vibrant especially at night. During the day most people stay in their hotels or lay on the beach. Things can be exii I endive in Samui sos hop around. There are great drink specials at some bars.

If you are not brave enough to rent a motorcycle (we weren't) use the NaviGo app - similar to GRAB but predicts the metered fare before you book. Significantly cheaper than the 'metered' taxis (negotiate $$ before you get in) and private/hotel cars.
