Hear the sound of Malaysian, Russian, Italian or Uzbek without leaving Busan at one of Korea’s foremost universities of languages and international relations.

Students at the Busan University of Foreign Studies are resolutely turned toward the world. Studying more than 15 languages from all over the globe, from English to Thai, they learn about international law and business, international studies and more, all in a striking modern campus at the foot of Geumjong Mountain. Walk amid the buildings along the esplanade. Bring a picnic with treats procured from nearby shops to enjoy while listening to the chatter of multiple languages.

Walk from the subway stop on pleasant streets, where the relative peacefulness can be refreshing after Busan city center’s bustle. Pick up a pastry or coffee at one of the bakeries and cafés that are dotted amid the other businesses, perfect for keeping your energy up while exploring the campus. At the entrance to the campus itself, admire how the clean lines of the architecture draw your eye upward to the main university building, whose sandy-yellow exterior and curved glass cladding evoke traditional Korean aesthetics.

Sit on a bench and watch students walking across the plaza with its distinctive, nearly conical pine trees. Try to identify the languages spoken as you listen to them or join in and practice your Korean.

Study the events calendar for interesting happenings or simply appreciate the atmosphere that is dedicated to learning and foreign service. Climb the steps leading to the main building and turn back to look out over the neighborhood.

Busan University of Foreign Studies is located in the Namsan-dong neighborhood of the Geumjeong-gu district north of central Busan. In 10 minutes, walk from the closest subway station, which is an hour away from the central Busan station by subway and also provides connections to other parts of the city. Take the train from the airport in a little over an hour. Campus parking for visitors is very limited.

The main esplanades of the campus are open all day, but opening hours for individual buildings vary and may be restricted only to students or people affiliated with the university.
