Taking the overnight train from Brisbane we were delayed, by a medical emergency, for over 3 hours arriving about 8.45pm instead of 5pm. On arrival at the hotel the door was locked and no one visible inside. There was an emergency telephone number outside and intercom. Several attempts at both had no response. A resident appeared and let us in but no message re door key etc. eventually another resident appeared and was able to open a key pad near reception with envelopes inside and luckily one for our room. Having no Wi-Fi on the train or telephone signal we had not been able to inform the hotel of our late arrival. Once in our room we logged onto Wi-Fi and received their email telling us that reception closed at 8pm and details of access—a bit late. As we had paid for half board we had missed dinner but nothing- not even a bag of crisps had been left for us. Beware, no recompense the next day, 20$ allowance each for dinner and breakfast doesn’t include drinks! The cooked to order breakfast was good.
