You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Relax & unwind at Shades of Blue Eco Retreat. Stunning bayviews & private beach

WELCOME TO SHADES OF BLUE.

The best of both worlds. Wide open spaces, no immediate neighbours, stunning water views over the pristine Marine Park, and a luxury holiday house with your own private shell beach.

Enjoy a refreshing drink over a BBQ while sitting on the wrap around deck which gives you 180 degree views over the picturesque bay.
You'll see the ever changing shades of blue, as the sky is reflected into the tranquil waters. Then watch the blues change to the colours of stunning sunsets night after night.

Or if it's a cold winter's day or night, enjoy the glorious views from inside the open plan living area boasting cosy & warm reverse cycle air conditioning.

Whatever the season, Shades of Blue Eco Retreat has everything to make your stay memorable. Whether it's a private romantic get away for two, or a large family get together or group function, it's a great location to escape the hum drum of the daily grind.

[THE RETREAT]

Shades of Blue Eco Retreat is a holiday house, perched on a hill, with about 200 metres of absolute shell beach frontage. You have 15 acres of undulating land to explore. It is situated in a rural setting, amongst the rolling hills of the Calca farming area, over looking the beautiful Head of Baird Bay inlet, on the beautiful Eyre Peninsula of South Australia.

The entire house is eco friendly. Its powered by a stand alone Solar Powered System with a backup silenced generator. The house is supplied by pristine rain water caught in various large rainwater tanks around the property.

[THINGS TO DO]

You can walk down to the beach from the house and swim in the shallow waters. Beach towels are also provided along with a picnic chest, kitted out with all you need, including drink coolers, for either picnicking down at the House Beach or taking a trip to Murphy's Haystack's picnic grounds, or the various surrounding beaches.

A two person kayack is available to enjoy the serenity on the waters, and take in the views of the cliffs and the surrounding bay beach area.
Or if preferred, a tinnie can be launched from the private beach, and after a 5 minute or so motor through the marine park, you can enter the fishing zone of the Head of Baird Bay waters, where you can catch garfish, or whiting, for the night's meal.

The open plan living area comprises a large 64" Flat Screen TV, with complimentary Foxtel and WiFi connected. This living area, to the eastern side of the open room includes ample seaing, with ottoman foot stools for relaxing with your feet up.

There is also a wireless sound bar which allows you to connect your device to enable listening to your own personal music collection, as loud as you wish, as there are no immediate neighbours, and no noise curfews.

Board games include Scrabble, Traditional Monopoly, Connect 4, Poker, Quoits and 3 in one Chess set. A selection of colouring books and pencils, puzzle books and a blank scrap book are housed in the living area storage baskets.

For movie buffs, there is a library of DVDs for use in any of the wall mounted TVs in each of the bedrooms, if you need to break away from the group, or just stay in bed all day.

A large six burner BBQ or a Weber BBQ Kettle awaits the outdoor cook, and this area overlooks a fenced landscaped garden, which is an ideal spot for children to safely play, in full view of the elevated deck and living areas.

Or, once in this area, you may enjoy an invigorating dip in a 5 person heated spa, enjoying the summer views, while relaxing with a drink in hand.

Otherwise, try a game of table tennis, or darts, in the adjoining shed which opens up into the fenced garden.

[HOUSE FEATURES]

The Holiday Retreat has all you'll need to have a relaxing holiday with all the creature comforts, you'd expect. There are 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.

The western side of the living room comprises another seating area, which includes two leather tub chairs and a two seater leather lounge, with an ottoman foot stool and a bookcase with a selection of books.
Perfectly designed for a reading nook, or 'time out space', for contemplating the vista through the expansive glass windows.

The Holiday House has a fully equipped laundry, including front loading 10kg washing machine, complimentary washing powder, plenty of outside washing line space, and in wet weather, a wall mounted dryer, spacious bench-top and deep laundry sink.

At an optional extra cost, for in house dining, professional catering can be arranged for special occasions either breakfasts, lunches or dinners.

Outdoors, on each of the eastern and western decks is a 6 person and 8 person dining setting. The western deck is fitted with see through Ziptrac patio blinds for protection from those strong sea breezes. There’s also a 6 burner hooded BBQ for perfect roasts.

Point Labatt Conservation Reserve is approximately 17 kms away which is the only Australian mainland location to view Sea lion colonies including Australian and New Zealand sea lions, and New Zealand fur seals. Also from the clifftop viewing platform, you can take in the breathtaking views of the Southern Ocean coastline.

Murphy's Haystacks is approximately 22km to the east (unsealed road) and comprises a unique outcrop of giant granite boulders. A walkway takes you up close and between the giant natural structures towering above, for a spectacular viewing.

The picturesque coastal resort town of Streaky Bay is only 30 minutes drive away, on the Sceale Bay Road (sealed).

On your way to Streaky Bay take a left turn at the Westall Way Loop sign for a spectacular scenic drive.
Whilst in the town there are many shops to visit, including a clothing store, a newsagency, chemist and giftware, a fishing and tackle shop, hardware and craft shop, or you could have breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Bay Funktion Café or the beautiful Streaky Bay Hotel. Otherwise you can eat at the local bakery.

The local Foodland and IGA Supermarkets have all your holiday grocery and or liquor needs.

Wow…This is amazing…how cool is this place….I don’t want to leave…..were some of the comments from our party of 7 in January 2024! Everything was thought of & provided for our family holiday & we were able to tick off the swim with sea lions & dolphins experience from our bucket list! Kids loved the darts, ping pong, spa & kayak! There was plenty of space with the most amazing views & sunsets! Thank you Anne & Shades of Blue Eco Retreat! Highly Recommended!!!

Great views
We enjoyed our stay and views are amazing. We would suggest you have your oven looked at your oven as we couldn't get any heat into the oven and when it takes 45 minutes to cook garlic bread that should take 10 minutes we think there is something wrong. We had the oven on 260 and couldn't burn anything.

Beautiful Spot, great house
House was well set up for 12 people even though there were only 2 of us for this stay. Found the location was excellent for seeing the main sights around The Streaky Bay Area. House is about 25 mins out of Streaky Bay so supplies and meals easily accessible if required. A really comfortable bed!

Best stay on the west coast
We have enjoyed the best holiday on the remote west coast, near sceale bay. This house is immaculate and the spa and games room was a huge hit with the kids. The house has all you need so don’t bring too much gear. The owner (Anne) was a huge help and responded immediately with any queries we had. Shades of blue is several steps above any other accommodation offered on the west coast of South Australia. We will be back!

Serene Happiness
Our host Anne couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. Minor hiccups were swiftly dealt with and the facilities on offer were second to none in this fairly isolated part of the state. With almost no neighbours and stunning views out over Baird's Bay it was an idyllic tranquil place to spend a week, even in the middle of winter. The isolation was the attraction for us coupled with the luxury and facilities provided. The kitchen is very well appointed as are the living and bedroom areas. Lots of little touches made our stay special. It goes to show what can be done living off grid too as the home is completely run by a self contained solar/diesel plant. Our only regret is that it is a LONG drive from Adelaide (~8hrs), otherwise I could see us coming back more and more often.

Incredible house and view
We recently stayed here fir my birthday celebrations for family and friends. Our only regret is that we didn’t book for longer. Could not fault anything. House was just perfect, clean and equipped with whatever you needed. Views just spoke for themselves. Honestly, do yourself a favour and go and stay. Communication with owner was faultless too. Already trying to work out when we can go there again … but longer than two nights because that just didn’t seem long enough to fully appreciate the home, the view and spectacular scenery nearby.

family getaway
house and area fantastic. brilliant setup 5 bedrooms-used every room, 4 toilets and bath/showers and need them all. unfortunately lost power one night but owner helped us find and fix the issue then power problems never happened again, one little issue of water leaking into one of the rooms in a pretty heavy downpour, notified the owner. cleaner came in the middle of our stay to do a clean due to COVID- 19, one of our guests were not impressed with that as their property had been moved and not placed where it was before, so unknown what else what was touched/moved without our permission. Hopefully this wont happen again. they had some food items to get people started on their holiday( needs to be restocked as some out of date items) towels, bedding pot, pans, cutlery, plates etc all supplied. other than those couple of things every thing else was absolutely wonderful. kids loved spa and ping pong, loved a game or two of darts. interesting places to visit within 1-2 hours drive. fishing great at Streaky Bay, taught some of family to fish and they loved it when they started catching the fish off the jetty. couldn't have asked for a better location to spend a holiday> Cheers Karyn
