Marvel at some of the oldest dunes in the country and walk out onto the pier for spectacular views of the Causeway Coast.

Castlerock Beach is a sandy area with picturesque dunes and sea cliffs. Standing between the rugged coastline of Downhill and an estuary, the serene shore has an RV park and a golf course. Explore the shops and traditional restaurants of this quaint coastal town and appreciate the calm ambiance.

The dunes toward the Lower River Bann Estuary are dated as among the oldest in all of Ireland. Stroll along Barmouth Pier for its excellent views of the sea and the waves that crash into it. Enjoy the feeling of the wind in your face in this tranquil setting.

Spot marine life, such as porpoises and seals, in the water. Bring the family for a swim in July and August, when lifeguards patrol the beach daily from morning until evening. Enjoy a picnic with the mesmerizing backdrop of the ocean and the sound of the waves. The beach is a popular spot for fishermen.

Enjoy a few rounds at the Castlerock Golf Club with a view of the pleasant village and the sea. Stroll through the green meadows and towering dunes. The golf complex contains an 18-hole course and a 9-hole course.

The beach remains open year-round and is free to enter. Make use of the bathroom facilities, Wi-Fi and free parking. Stay at one of the apartments or RV sites that line the shore.

Make your way to the nearby shoreline of Downhill, which is a livelier area than Castlerock. Visit the Mussenden Temple for its magnificent landscape. Gaze up at the majestic seacoasts that mark the region. See the classical structures and gardens at Downhill Castle, Bishop’s Gate and Black Glen.

Castlerock Beach is in the northeastern part of its namesake village. Walk along one of the many boardwalks that grant access across the dunes to the beach. It is a 2-minute walk north from Castlerock Railway Station. The city of Coleraine is an 8-mile (13-kilometer) journey southeast, which should take 15 minutes by car.
