The Crucible Theatre is a modern arts and sporting venue, most famous as the home of the World Snooker Championship. The hexagonal-shaped stage regularly hosts theatrical performances and sporting events such as table tennis and squash.
Admire the modern look of the building’s façade. It is distinctive for its sign, which is illuminated with a dazzling array of changing colours.
Take a seat in the auditorium, which has seating on four wings surrounding the stage. All positions offer great views of the stage, with no seat further than 72 feet (22 metres) from the action. The atmospheric auditorium has a black ceiling with star-like lights.
Stroll around the spacious Tudor Square, which fronts the theatre. Note the many theatres that surround the square, including the Lyceum Theatre, Studio Theatre and Library Theatre. The plaza is known as Theatreland.
Meet friends at Crucible Corner, the theatre’s bar. Have a snack before heading into the auditorium or stop by for a post-show drink. Sit at one of the outdoor tables beneath an umbrella on a warm day. The Café Crucible beside the theatre building’s foyer is another option for snacks and refreshments.
Make sure to book in advance for the World Snooker Championship, as it is a popular event with limited capacity. The event takes place for around two weeks in mid-April. Purchase tickets for the championship and other events at the theatre’s box office, online or by phone.
Find the Crucible Theatre to the northeast of the Peace Gardens in the centre of the city. Arrive at one of the many nearby bus stops or walk northwest for 10 minutes from Sheffield Train Station. Nearby attractions include the O2 Academy Sheffield, Graves Gallery and Sheffield Town Hall.
