For what I paid (3,700 yen/night) I wasn't expecting luxury, but it fell below my low expectations and was not worth that price. I was diving at Evolution Divers and Google Maps put this place 200m away, which was my primary reason for booking as Evolution itself was full for the first 4 nights of my trip. But in reality it was an unlit 10 minute walk through a confusing maze of back alleys where the locals live, with vicious-looking dogs everywhere you look. The room itself was rather small and the bathroom/toilet was a combined wet room which didn't drain well so you have to get your feet wet each time you want to use the mirror etc. The air con worked OK but was very loud. One day we had a power cut at around 9pm which lasted till the next afternoon. It seems other places have back-up generators to deal with this common occurrence but Mar and Ems do not unfortunately. This also meant no water for that period since the pump requires electricity.
My friends stayed in much better places for a similar price (Starlight, Celtis) in the same neighborhood. For the latter half of my trip I stayed with evolution (5000 yen/night) which was only about 1/3 more expensive but was incomparable in terms of quality and location and included a very good breakfast. The trek through local village was worst part so in future I'd try harder to book with the resort or another close-by resort on the beach.
