"Whilst most of the hotel is 5 star, there were some niggling problems. 1. The WiFi and internet are terrible. This is 2025 not 1995 !! 2. The cord on the hairdryer was so short you cannot use a mirror when drying your hair. 3. The “adults” pool is not really for adults. It has no lifeguards but children n can use it freely. Everything else was excellent, especially breakfast."

"I left my heart in Talalla Retreat. Incredible staff who were so welcoming and hard working, the Retreat itself is stunning. I had an upstairs bedroom so was able to fully enjoy the surroundings. The food was incredible. I felt super safe. I didn’t want to leave. A must visit - and please do as the Sri Lankan people need visitors right now. "

"Such a lovely hotel, situated on a quiet, beautiful beach. All staff here and at the sister hotel a short walk away were amazing, with a special mention to Rosin and Nedmina (sorry I couldn’t quite remember your full name!) We loved being able to swim in the sea just outside and walking along the beach. A great, comfortable base for exploring the South Coast. Lovely food too-eating on the beach was a real treat!"

"We loved out stay, hotel staff were so attentive and went out of our way to enjoy the experience. The meals were truly amazing, Dinusla cooked our dinner as we were the first guests for the season and Wow! It was the best Sri/Lankan meal we have ever had. Breakfast was so delicious, fresh fruit & juice, eggs of choice plus delicious delicate curry with roti. Sean, Uden and Shenal were fabulous, they felt like family when we had to depart."

Basics such as mosquito nets, had holes in so didn't work, and had a little trouble with communication (being English) which didn't experience at other more rural places. "Vi ankom sent pga trafikk. Hotellet sendte oss underveis en WhatsApp melding og lurte på når vi ankom. Flott gest. Fine rom, veldig god og personlig service. God beliggenhet på flott strand, rolig område. God restaurant med hyggelig betjening. Veldig trivelig at eier (Andrea) kom over for å hilse på oss. Vi hadde behov for transport til Unawatuna etter vårt opphold, det ordnet hotellet på kort varsel. Tusen takk og mange anbefalinger fra oss👍"
