Watch rock concerts and classical music recitals at this auditorium, which is one of several facilities located in the Dunedin Centre.

Dunedin Town Hall is a civic building and events centre located in the heart of Dunedin’s city centre. It has a 2,000-plus capacity auditorium suitable for concerts, conferences and galas, among other events. Admire this magnificent Victorian-style building that dominates the northern side of The Octagon, Dunedin’s central plaza. It is part of a group of versatile venues collectively known as the Dunedin Centre.

Locate the town hall’s two entrances, both of which have architecturally impressive façades. The southern façade is a three-level structure festooned with balustrades, capitals, pilasters and a grand staircase. It also features a clock tower and belfry. The rear frontage is adorned with a pediment supported by Corinthian-style columns.

Dunedin Town Hall houses the office of Dunedin City Council, although the main reason for visiting is to attend one of its entertainment events. Watch shows by world-famous artists, cover bands and classical musicians. Previous performers include Auckland-born pop singer Lorde and British tenor Paul Potts.

While here, check to see what’s on at the Dunedin Centre’s other venues. Concerts, talks and stand-up comedy shows take place in the smaller Glenvoy Auditorium. Consult the schedule listed on the official website of Dunedin Venues for information about the events that take place year-round. Purchase tickets online or at the box office.

Situated in the city centre, the town hall is easy to get to on foot and via public buses. Paid parking is available on the surrounding streets.

Combine your time at Dunedin Town Hall with a visit to nearby major city attractions. Adjacent is the 19th-century St. Paul’s Cathedral, famous for its remarkable stained-glass windows. Browse exhibitions of national and European art at Dunedin Public Art Gallery and catch a show at the Regent Theatre. Spend an evening soaking up the lively atmosphere of the bars set around The Octagon.

Wen to town Hall for a graduation, it was extremely stuffy and hot in their, and not practical having so many stairs to go up.
