When checking in to the hotel, the receptionist could not find my booking. I showed them the Expedia confirmation - but apparently they needed the hotel confirmation number which was not provided by Expedia. They asked for photo-ID, and still could not find the booking. Finally it was clear that despite clearly saying my name, and showing my photo id with my name on it, the receptionist was looking up the name incorrectly. My name is O'Donovan and the receptionist was looking up Donovan. I been asked for my surname, and replied O'Donovan, I was asked for my photo-id and it shows O'Donovan, I was asked for my first name , Andy. And still the receptionist was looking up Donovan - my first name does not begin with an 'O'..
The probem with all of this is that I was made to feel like I had made a mistake, either I wasn't who I said I was, or the booking was incorrect. One the booking was found, by another receptionist, there was no apology. Again, the receptionist's mistake was my fault.
I did not feel welcome - I felt distrusted..
When a hotel of this quality cannot find a booking, they should first be checkign the have understood the right name.... instead, I got unwelcome distrust.
My response - there are many other hotels in Edinburgh.
