Stockholm Flights

Classic charm and natural beauty make Stockholm an unforgettable destination for your next holiday. The capital city of Sweden is built upon 14 main islands connected by 50 bridges on Lake Mälaren. In this bustling city, you’ll discover grand palaces, captivating museums, and a beautiful archipelago made up of 24,000 islands and islets. You’ll also find that Stockholm offers a fully cosmopolitan experience as well. You can discover plenty of places to shop, dine, and party to your heart’s delight. Come during the summer months and enjoy nearly endless daylight—up to 18 hours a day—or celebrate the winter with plenty of snow and great ski runs.

Start your trip off by visiting Stockholm Palace or the Drottningholm Palace, where the royal family resides. The city is home to more than 70 museums, so spend some time browsing the exhibits. The most popular are the Vasa Museum and the Skansen, an open air museum. Don’t miss out on Stockholm’s old town, called Gamla stan, where you can walk along cobbled streets and view buildings from the 13th century. At the end of the day, head to the island of Sodermalm, (known as “Soder”), which offers lots of fine dining options and a rocking night life.

Best Time to Travel

Peak Season:

Summer is the best time to see Stockholm in all its glory. Between June and August, the weather is warm, reaching up to 25 degrees Celsius, and the sun stays out virtually all day. Just remember to bring layers, as the temperature can drop dramatically in the evenings.

Shoulder Season:

Hotel prices and the cost of many tourist attractions drop in the spring, between March and May, and fall, September through November. This time of the year does bring slightly cooler temperatures though, so remember to pack accordingly.

Off Season:

If you love skiing or snowboarding, then score cheap flights to Stockholm between January and March. This is prime snow sport season, but do realize the city experiences darkness for up to 18 hours a day during the winter months.

How to survive the flight to Stockholm?
We’ve got the lowdown on how to make your flight a pleasant experience. Follow our top tips and you’ll be hightailing it through airport security and discovering Stockholm before you know it.What to pack in your hand luggage:

  • Travelling on a plane can be a pleasure if you’ve got all the right things. Firstly, you’ll need basic toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a spare set of clothes and a magazine or two. Next, leave space in your hand luggage for your electronic devices, chargers, any daily medications and maybe a comfy neck pillow as well. Last, but definitely not least, remember to take your passport, travel docs and some money.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

  • Double-check that you don’t have sharp objects (like a pocket knife) hiding in one of the zippers of your carry-on luggage. Other prohibited items include explosive or flammable products, such as fuel and fireworks, and liquids and gels in containers with a capacity of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).

What to wear on a flight:

  • The narrow aisles of your aircraft are no fashion runway. Don comfortable layers and bring a cardigan as it can get chilly in the cabin on long-haul flights. Flat, slightly roomy shoes are also recommended.
  • Unfortunately, a risk of long flights is developing DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged inactivity. To avoid this, take every opportunity to walk around the cabin and stretch your legs. Compression socks and tights are another great idea to help minimize this risk.

How to get through airport security fast when flying to Stockholm?
Being organised before you get to the airport will help make your getaway to Stockholm a piece of cake. Here are some handy tips and tricks for a swift journey past security:

  • Keep your ID and boarding pass close by. They’ll be the first things you’ll be asked to present to security.
  • Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your jacket, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like coins, will need to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them as it gets closer to your turn.
  • All your electronics, including your phone and laptop, must also be scanned.
  • Remove all liquids and gels from your carry-on bag. They often need to be sent through the X-ray machine separately. Each item should be no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and everything must fit inside a single quart-size (one litre), clear zip-lock bag.
  • Lightweight sneakers are a sensible footwear choice as you’re less likely to have to remove them when passing through security. Big boots and other heavy shoes are often subjected to additional screening.
  • Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, pack them safely away in your checked baggage. They won’t be allowed in the cabin.
