"It was our first trip to Italy, and this was the perfect family dwelling. The pictures don't begin to capture the breathtaking Dolomites or the outstanding accommodations! The kitchen is a gem! "Unbelievably stunning setting. You will need to be a confident driver to manage the roads up to the house as the roads are steep and winding as you would expect in Tuscany. The smell of Jasmine and the natural peaceful surrounding beauty is amazing. We used the pool everyday and enjoyed a bbq too. There is a great cafe about 29 minutes walking up the hill with a lovely atmosphere and a small local shop to get essentials...

"This is a truly beautiful house with long views down to Lucca and olive groves all around. It is well-furnished and we slept really soundly. Massimo, the host, is extremely gracious and offers many great ideas for local activities and day trips, and once you find it the local supermarket is very well stocked. "We are a group of 12 retired friends traveling first time in Tuscany. Villa Buonamici was the perfect accommodation for us. It is very close to the gate to the walled city center, literally only minutes away. The accommodations were exactly as described. Checkin/out was very easy and convenient. Our trip to Tuscany included stays in four separate locations and Villa Buonamici was by far our favorite. Do yourself a favor and stay at this Villa, you won’t be disappointed."

"Property itself was ultra clean and the staff were amazing. The building is a little dated but perfectly functional. Unfortunately, the drawback of the area is that the beaches are mostly fully reserved for the entire season by Italians from the city and so it is almost impossible to get a place in any of the beaches even or of peak season"

"This is a beautiful house with the most spectacular view down the valley! Kids and adults loved the pool, either jumping in repeatedly or relaxing on the sun loungers. The house itself is huge, well equipped and a cool escape when the temperature rose. The location of the house is on a road but that didn’t bother us. We had a hire car which we felt was essential ( although there was a small bus that regularly went past the house) it was a short drive to the nearest village (you can’t walk...

In living in this house we discovered a part of World War II we were not familiar with, but my youngest son did not like the idea that families had been killed in the house and in surrounding houses and was slightly scared. "My daughter and I spent a lovely week there. We loved it. If you want a week away from it all you couldn't do better. Most mornings were in the garden just reading in the sun. The small farmhouse is very peaceful with great views. The house is comfortable and everything worked (incl Wifi). It could do with a bit better seating area inside for the evenings, it's ok and you are normally outside. A small point. Lucca is close by and fascinating, worth taking a guided tour. "I stayed at NH for an extended period (2 weeks) due to a medical emergency with my husband, who was hospitalized. The hotel is close to the hospital, the water and shopping. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and kind. Everyone from front desk staff to housekeeping went the extra mile to make my stay comfortable and expressed genuine concern for my husband’s health. The hotel is very clean and the breakfast is fantastic. Definitely would stay again. "

Perfect Gem!

"Enjoyed 2 nights at the beautiful Atmosfere Guesthouse, and can’t recommend it enough. Check in was easy and super friendly, they even sent a follow up message the next morning to see if I needed anything! The little apartment was fresh, very clean, spacious, well equipped and super comfy bed! I’m on a longer trip and really appreciated a kettle and tea, as well as the lovely little kitchenette. But the icing on the cake was a small but efficient clothes washer, with detergent!!! After 3 weeks on the road hand washing, this was such a treat. La Spezia is a lovely little town, still very authentic, and excellent starting point for Cinque Terra. I can’t recommend both the town and Atmosfere enough. "

Beautiful Tuscan country retreat if it fits you

"This is a truly beautiful house with long views down to Lucca and olive groves all around. It is well-furnished and we slept really soundly. Massimo, the host, is extremely gracious and offers many great ideas for local activities and day trips, and once you find it the local supermarket is very well stocked. Having said all that, there are two "buts" to determine if this is the right fit for you. The key one is that "steep, winding, and narrow road" indicated in some comments is an understatement of the case. If you are not an experienced and confident driver with a relatively small car, you're going to have a challenge. The road goes from one lane to less than one car width, there are no shoulders, and the dropoffs are steep. It is very unlikely that a car service would agree to come pick you up. Issue #2, which is related to that, is that either you cook quite a bit in the well-appointed kitchen or you stay out for lunch and dinner (meaning drive up the hill in the dark). It is a good 20-25 minutes to anywhere and you get to navigate the hill both ways. We would go out for the day, enjoy an Italian lunch, pick up supplies for dinner, and head home to cook and enjoy that. (Issue #3: if you are a crazy cat person, use your common sense and do not feed the feral cats that roam the mountain as the people before us did.) Again, we very much enjoyed our stay once we figured it all out but you need a small car and you better be a good driver."
