"I arrived at Hotel Märthof on my last day in Europe before flying back to the states early the next morning. The hotel staff was welcoming and arranged for my taxi to the airport at 3:45 am the next morning (😳). The hotel appears modern and sophisticated, with dark moody colors in the lobby hallways. The room was clean and bright with a very comfortable bed and great water pressure in the modern, updated shower. The location is great- it is right near Old Town and close to the Rhine River. The autumn fair was beginning the day I arrived and I enjoyed visiting the a local plaza with local vendors and booths. Hotel staff provided me with a map with locations of the plazas with markets and gave me a free pass for trams and public transportation. I mainly wandered around looking at the beautiful buildings of Old Town. There’s also a grocery store close by if needed. The only negative were the trams that run so close to the hotel. At night there are fewer of them (reduced schedule I think) but I heard them rumble by all night. I would stay there again…I appreciated the chocolate bar they gave me upon checkout to take with me to the airport! Nothing like Swiss chocolate to celebrate a visit to a beautiful country. "

"Property and rooms/employees all excellent. Surrounding area under construction and a carnival active across the street. These problems hopefully will clear up soon."

"We arrived early and was able to get our room right away. Very friendly front desk staff. Mini bar is included. Hotel provided free tram tickets."

"Great location but not easy to drive to as there are a lot of pedestrian only streets near the hotel. Parking is at the art museum garage a few minutes away. About 30 CHF per day. Hotel was great and modern with a bar in the lobby. Staff was nice. "

"IMMACULATE, squeaky clean room!! Room was snug; small but well organized. Bed was very comfortable, linens pristine. No AC that we could find but fine for Oct. Shower had good water pressure but glass shield only 1/2 way so water all over the floor. (As Americans we remain puzzled by these 1/2 walls and yearn for a full shower door!!) Front desk staff left at about 6 p.m. deferring to sister property Hotel Euler. We appreciated the full breakfast buffet. Plenty of restaurants close by for dinner. Perfect for a comfortable overnight near the train station. "

"The hotel is in an excellent location for travel in and out of Basel Bahnhof, and walking around central Basel. Service and the buffet breakfast are both very good. I had a cosy single room with thick window glazing to block most noise from the street below. I did not experience internal noise from other guests and slept well. The choice of eating options at the hotel and in it’s immediate vicinity is limited but there are great cafes and restaurants a short tram ride or a 10 minute away."
