Take a tour with a licensed guide in your own car and visit two museums providing information on the Battle of Gettysburg.

Gettysburg National Military Park is a sprawling, verdant area that commemorates the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. The cemetery and museum here provide information on the fascinating battle during the American Civil War. Inspect the many memorials and statues that adorn this scenic park.

Visit the Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center for a comprehensive overview of the battle and the Civil War. It contains the majority of the 43,000 military relics in the park. Watch A New Birth of Freedom, a film narrated by actor Morgan Freeman. Gather information about the park and the Battle of Gettysburg. Admire the 19th-century Gettysburg Cyclorama that portrays the intense battle scene.

Make your way to the Resource Room and the Museum Bookstore to continue your research into the famous military encounter, which had the most casualties of all battles in the American Civil War. Relax at the Refreshment Saloon with a few drinks and snacks.

Drive through the park with one of the licensed battlefield guides. In summer, the park offers bus tours, which last about 2 hours. Go to the David Wills House, where the namesake attorney worked on the aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg. The house has informative displays relating to President Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address, among his most famous speeches.

Stroll through the scenic fields of the park and bring a picnic basket to enjoy a reflective lunch with your family. Snap photos of the round boulders of Devil’s Den.

The park opens daily year-round from morning until late evening. There is a fee to enter the museum, with discounts for seniors and youths. Toddlers enter for free.

The Gettysburg National Military Park is in the southern part of the town of Gettysburg, the seat of Adams County. Take the Rabbit Express bus from Harrisburg International Airport and get around Gettysburg via the Freedom Transit trolley. Visit nearby attractions, such as Sachs Covered Bridge and the Eisenhower National Historic Site.
