Take Inspiration from a Stunning Coastal Setting and the Bones of a 16th Century Cottage
If you understand the history of the Scottish kings and the resulting gunpowder plot, then you’ll certainly appreciate this property, especially during Hastings’ own unique bonfire parties.
While being close to the action of the old town, this property is in a quieter residential location, thus allowing you to have peace and calm. Wabi-sabi is the inspiration of the interior scheme.
The space
With a traditional cottage appeal, this luxury coastal hideaway is an ideal retreat for couples or families looking for an alternative escape. Hastings’ old town offers an unchanging and charming allure, unusual to most of Sussex.

The 'Wabi-sabi' theme
A Japanese philosophy that has been around since the 15th century. It came about as a reaction to the dominant trends of the time, which relied heavily on over-ornamentation, lavishness, and the use of rare materials. In direct contrast, wabi-sabi is all about finding beauty in imperfection. It involves grounding oneself by forming a deep connection to the earth and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.
Above all, it centres around recognising the importance of authenticity and striving to remain authentic in all aspects of one’s life. For some, wabi-sabi is more of a guiding principle than a design trend. It’s about accepting things as they are, rather than spending your time wishing for something better, and retraining yourself to find the positives in less-than-ideal situations.
Practicalities: The cottage has an electric oven/hob, a fridge/freezer, and a washing machine. Fully equipped kitchen. Wi-Fi internet is available, please note that the mobile reception can be patchy due to the location. We will also provide a property and destination guide.
Outside
Located on the high street, 101 is just a gentle amble away from the fishing boats and beach, so if sea swimming, antique rummaging, good old fish and chips, nice restaurants, and fun people form part of your holiday 'to do' list, then you couldn't be better located.
For those of you who are looking to enjoy the charm and ambience of the old town, but also want to be able to sit back and relax, this cottage is a safe haven.
