Oakland on a budget

"Had to travel to Oakland for a short notice job interview. Booked Jack London Inn due to having a reasonable price and its distance from the job interview site. Hotel's location is convenient to many nearby tourist attractions and restaurants. Alameda island only a 10 minute walk/ferry ride away. Room itself was decent and reservation included breakfast. Check-in was smooth and front desk clerk was kind enough to loan me a pen for my job interview. Next time I'm in Oakland, will definitely hit this place up."

Cleanliness is next to Godliness

"I booked the room because ive seen the hotel from the streets and it looked peaceful. There's a veey large comfy terrace. Then I read the reviews and was nervous. Most people complained about lots of things. Cleanliness was not a complaint. That made me feel better. So my son and I and our cat stayed for the weekend. The staff was welcoming and our check in was fast and easy. The room was very clean. It is small and there isnt a dresser, but the room and bathroom was very clean. We enjoyed quiet night sleeps and the lounge area was large and comfy. Cleanliness is my tip priority when booking hotels. The Moxy receives a gold star. I'd sray here again. "

Host not familiar with VRBO procedures

"I booked on May 8 and within an hour realized I need to modify the arrival date. The listing said free cancellation May 12. I immediately messaged the host, but didn't receive an inbox response until May 17 approving the date change. I then ask the host to change the online booking dates and charges to reflex the agreed upon shorter stay. She insisted that I had handle that with VRBO. When I reached out to VRBO, every request was automatically forwarded to the host, who remained adamant that I handle the online update. After days of calls and disconnections, I reached a VRBO representative who corrected the booking (once I got past their recommending that I reach out to the host). When I arrived at the listing, it wasn't clean. The sheets were stained and rumpled (like they had been used). The bathroom toilet and sink were soiled. I messaged that host who responded "Maaam. I don’t do knit picking. The house was cleaned. You are more than welcomed to get a hotel if it’s not up to your standards." I have been happy VRBO customer for over 30 years. This experience brought home that VRBO does not have assessable customer support if a host does not know how to use the service. This was also my first experience with a poorly cleaned unit."
