Sham Shui Po is a major budget shopping and dining hotspot of Kowloon and a place where you can experience the time-honored traditions of Chinese Hong Kong. Visit Sham Shui Po to shop at street markets lined with neon-lit shops while devotees say prayers at old temples. Breathe in the aromas of a thousand spices which permeate the air, and take a break from the busy environment at serene parks. See modern malls standing adjacent to typical tong lau tenement homes.

Whatever you’re looking for you’re likely to find it at one of the lively markets. Browse for all things related to electronic goods at the Apliu Street Market and shop for buttons, ribbons, zippers and more at the Haberdashery Market. Head to Fuk Wing Street for children’s toys, and haggle for clothes on Cheung Sha Wan Road. Everything from antique coins to budget fashion is available at the hawker stands on Pei Ho Street.

While exploring the streets you’ll have plenty of opportunities to satisfy your cravings for bona fide Hong Kong-style cuisine. Feast on bowls of steaming noodles, dim sum and stinky bean curd. Be sure to try cart noodles, which are fish and meat balls served with noodles smothered in curry sauce. Restaurants on Fuk Wa Street have something to satisfy almost all tastes.

Notice how the hectic pace of the area instantly slows down in the many parks and plazas. Nam Cheong Park and Sham Shi Po Park are great places to take a well-earned break. Watch local sports teams in action at Maple Street Playground and relax by the ponds of Tung Chau Street Park.

As well as the vibrant retail action, residents find time for religious devotion at temples such as Kwan Tai Temple and Tin Hau Temple. Visit the Lei Cheng Uk Han Tomb, an archeological site that suggests that people have lived here for over 2,000 years.

Public buses and trains connect Sham Shui Po with other neighborhoods in Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Cheung Sha Wan, Sham Shui Po and Nam Cheong subway stations serve the area.
