West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade attracts locals and visitors alike with its magnificent views of Victoria Harbour, pretty parks and exhibition centers. Watch as traditional junk boats cross the harbor and marvel at a skyline of skyscrapers and mountains. Rent a bike and cruise along the breezy boardwalks. The West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade wraps around the seafront of the West Kowloon Cultural District, in the southwest corner of Kowloon.
The promenade is popular with everyone from dog walkers to families and joggers. Have fun spotting major landmarks, such as the Central Plaza and International Finance Center skyscrapers, which dominate Hong Kong Island.
Bring food and set up a picnic on the lush lawns of the West Kowloon Art Park. Free art workshops, handicraft markets and live music events take place here on the second Sunday of the month between March and September.
Get up close to flowers, fruit trees and plants native to Hong Kong and parts of Southeast Asia at the West Kowloon Nursery Park. Art enthusiasts will enjoy browsing the rotating exhibitions by international artists at the M+ Pavilion. Check the schedule of Freespace for contemporary dance, music and theater performances. One such event is November’s Freespace Jazz Fest, when jazz musicians from around the world take to indoor and outdoor stages.
Make your way to the promenade at sunset and then stay to watch daily light shows. The ICC Light and Music Show illuminates Hong Kong’s tallest building, the International Commerce Centre. Across the harbor, A Symphony of Light is an extravagant multimedia show projected by buildings on Hong Kong Island. Come at specific times of the year for fireworks displays that celebrate the Chinese New Year, China’s National Day and New Year’s Eve.
Reach the West Kowloon Waterfront Station by taking the subway to Kowloon station, located inside the Elements shopping mall, and then walk for 15 minutes. There’s a SmartBike station located on the promenade.
